Sound should work out of the box, the resolution can be changed via windows settings manager. Just install vmware from the command line. Once that is done, and you've set a virtual machine with some os on it(i've got winxp) you'll notice wifi doesent work. Simply goto that vm's settings and change the ethernet card option of bridged to NAT.
