I'm a computer consultant and I'm telling you, the 1501 is the greatest gift to man kind. Auto-NDISwrapper makes it much easier to get Wifi working each time I format with a new Ubuntu release. I just installed the latest 10.4 and wireless runs great!

I've installed 9.10 on my inspiration 1501, I activated the hardware in the hardware manager, but still there is no wireless.
There is no icon on my toolbar or anything. Anyone know? I can't really use Ubuntu without wireless so I'm currently trapped in WINDOWS!!!

hey,

auto-ndis wrapper isn't much use for 9.10. the first time i usedit, but the second time i installed 9.10 i didn't and the internet was way better. it just worked out of the box. so i'd say, don't use "Auto-NDISwrapper".

i am however having both audio and graphics problems with 9.10. and the new amorok killed my creative zen mp3 player. so mostly my 1501 works really well with 9.10, but there are still some really annoying problems. it would be really cool to have a space somewhere on this blog where users could write about new issues and give each other tips.

Jaunty does work well out of the box, most of the 8.10 articles here will apply for 9.04. Just open the Hardware Driver Manager and enable your WiFi and you're set.

Just an FYI. I upgraded to Jaunty for my 1501, and was pleased to discover that there is now a proprietary broadcomm driver that works without NDISwrapper... and works BETTER! The signal strength to my home and work networks increased dramatically.
