Then on the ubuntu forums theres a hundred ways to install it, and there all about the same. But make sure you dont enable the ati driver whatever you do. Even after the new 8.42.3 is installed, your restriced drivers manager will tell you that a driver is in use. It will also give you the option to check off the driver box.
